are 961 lakes in WASHBURN COUNTY with 475 of them named. The 31,498
acres of water and 866 miles of shoreline offer an abundance of
recreational opportunities. Here are several of the most noted lakes
in the county. |
*SPOONER
LAKE
Located just northeast of Spooner, the lake is 1,092 acres in size
with a maximum depth of 17ft. and is known to support northern pike,
walleye, bass and panfish. Nearby is the Spooner

*LONG
LAKE
Located in southeastern Washburn County. 3,300 acres, 19 miles long
and depths reaching over 70 ft. Spring fed and sparkling clean, with
it's cool deep bays, gravel bars and rocky shoreline, Long Lake is a
perfect place for walleye and many other species of fish to thrive
year 'round. Nearby are The Hunt Hill
Audubon Society, Butternut Hills Golf Course and
the Tuscobia Nature trail to hike
and explore. During Winter months, there are groomed cross-country
trails and miles and miles of marked, groomed snow-mobile

*SHELL
LAKE
Wisconsin's largest land-locked spring fed lake (2,500 acres), is
located 6 miles south of Spooner. Here you'll find a beachfront
public area and boat launch Because it is spring fed, clean and
clear with depths up to 36ft, the game fishing is next to heavenly.
If you're looking for MUSKIE- look no farther!
Shell lake is also a favorite sailing destination.
The Shell Lake
Airport provides a 3,700 ft. runway with IFR approach including
MIRLs, REILs and VASI for those who like to fly themselves to their
vacation destination point.

MINONG
FLOWAGE
The flowage, located in northwestern Washburn County, has 1,500
acres of water fed by the Totagatic river and it's tributaries.
Depths reach up to 20ft, and is ideal for muskie, walleye, northern
pike, bass and blue gill. The area provides habituate for waterfowl
and fur-bearing animals.

TREGO
LAKE
Trego lake is another place to find muskie. Although it is not a
large body of water, just 451 acres, the lake can provide a peaceful
respite from the fast activities of the larger lakes.
